It’s a fine day to be a hockey fan!

A day filled with outstanding matchups hits us today.  With all the teams jostling for position, a day where 22 out of the 30 teams are in action is definitely going to have much of the league glued to the out of town scoreboard during breaks in the action.

Bruins-Capitals is just about to face off as I type, featuring the top two teams in the East in an afternoon battle.  The Capitals have been a bit up and down lately, and seem to be struggling with consistency, while the Bruins have overpowered their last two opponents by a combined 12-1 score, possibly a sign that they’ve pulled out of their mini-slump of February.  The Capitals have had the Bruins number this season, however, notching 5 points (2-0-1) over the three head-to-head meetings.

Other highlights today include the always bitter Toronto/Ottawa rivalry (albeit a game that means almost nothing in the standings at this point), Dallas taking on Anaheim in a battle of teams trying to stay in the Western Conference playoff race, and the St. Louis Blues trying to stay within arm’s reach of the 8th seed out West against the fast-fading Phoenix Coyotes.

As for me, I’ll be watching as many of these as possible on the internet while my beloved Sabres are taking on the Islanders in a very important game for their playoff chances.  Enjoy!
