Razor vs. Tie
Yesterday, NHL.com posted an article about the three greatest player vs. player rivalries in NHL history (in their opinion, of course).
(read article here - http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=409314 )
Not bad choices………it’s a nearly impossible job to boil down all of the terrific rivalries in NHL history to just three. But it got me thinking about one particular rivalry close to the hearts of Buffalo Sabres fans………
Razor vs. Domi.
Rob Ray, the Buffalo Sabres pugilistic specialist in the late 80’s and 90’s, and Tie Domi, the feared enforcer for the Toronto Maple Leafs during that time span. I’m not a proponent of fighting in the sport of hockey. I enjoy a good fight, but I wouldn’t be among the broken-hearted if it were removed from the game.
But Razor vs. Domi? Those were battles for the ages. The game was sometimes secondary to who won the latest round of the ongoing war between the two titans. The biased Sabres fan in me wants to claim Razor as the victor of the war, having frequently beaten down the larger Domi, but of course, Razor suffered his share of defeats at the hands of Mr. Domi as well. I think you can call it a draw over time………but what a ride to get there!
