Rumor has it that the Rangers, who fired coach Tom Renney earlier today, are close to naming John Tortorella their new coach.  Tortorella was replaced prior to this season as the coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning by Barry Melrose, which proved to be an unmitigated disaster.  It was simply proof that Tortorella wasn’t the problem in TB at all.

So, the Rangers fire Renney, who shouldn’t have taken the fall for that team, and are looking to replace him with a coach who shouldn’t have been fired either.

I guess it kind of makes up for it.  And I’ll tell you, if Tortorella can’t light a fire under the Rangers, then they should ship the entire team off to Quebec Pee Wee’s York Simcoe Express for Mark Messier’s old skates and jock strap.
