Last night’s results, and a few thoughts…….

Published by ndtii95 at 5:23 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

- The Sabres came out and played the inspired game they should have against the Flyers, and defeated Florida 3-1 in an absolute must win situation.  It wasn’t the prettiest win ever, but it was two points in regulation that helped tighten them up with the rest of the Eastern Conference contenders.  Patrick Lalime was excellent between the pipes, and the team looked a bit like the bunch that beat the Canadiens and Coyotes handily before their dreadful two game road trip to Ottawa and Philly.

- They also received some help on the out of town scoreboard, as the Stars beat the Hurricanes, the Capitals beat the Flyers, and the Canadiens and Penguins also lost, in OT and shootout respectively, meaning the Sabres gained a point on each.  The standings now have 4th place Philly and 10th place Buffalo only separated by 7 points, although the Flyers have two to four games in hand over each of the teams behind them.

- Miro Satan is reporting to the Penguins AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, in the hopes that he might be able to return to the Penguins in the playoffs.  Due to the cap situation in Pittsburgh, he won’t likely come back before then, but at the end of the regular season, the cap won’t be in effect, so he’d be eligible to return as long as he clears re-entry waivers.  Makes me wonder if whoever the Penguins are playing against in the playoffs might try to put a claim in so that the Penguins couldn’t bring him up……….

- Veteran defenseman Sean O’Donnell will play in his 1000th career game Saturday night for the Kings in San Jose.  O’Donnell is the classic “Blue-collar” type defenseman, brings incredible work ethic and toughness to the rink every night, and is happy to perform his best work out of the limelight, without the fanfare a top goal scorer or netminder might receive.  Kudos to the former Sabres prospect on a well-earned milestone.

i’m trying to find a video of a hockey shoot out goal that was described on sports talk radio as amazing. the winning goal was flipped over the goalkeepers shoulder when the shooter, who was skating toward the goal backwards suddenly turned around and flipped the puck up from between his feet for the winning goal,.
