Tuesday thoughts……..
- Is it the Panthers all over again? Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks was asked about his future recently, and was non-committal about remaining with the Canucks, essentially saying he’ll go wherever he gets the best chance at winning a Cup. Does this mean he won’t sign an extension to his contract early? That’s my guess. Just like when he bolted Florida for similar reasons. Luongo is a goaltender you can build a team around - if he gives you the time. In my book, it’s just another case of a spoiled athlete who’s gotten too used to getting his own way - and I’m a little tired of seeing it.
- It’s a shame to have watched the Sabres fade the last few weeks, since Florida and Montreal have both done everything in their power to hand over the keys to the playoff bus to the Sabres. The Canadiens try to right the ship tonight against a surging Atlanta Thrasher team, while the Panthers travel to Buffalo to take on the Sabres as Buffalo desperately seeks to keep Ryan Miller’s pending return to the lineup meaningful.
- Speaking of Miller, speculation is that he will make his return Friday night as the Sabres take on The Maple Leafs in HSBC Arena. And not a moment too soon. I personally think it’s too late for the Sabres, but it WILL be interesting to see how this team reacts if they win Wednesday against Florida and then Miller’s between the pipes against Toronto.
